This week’s good news morsel is about the 4-7-8 breathing technique.

Just breathe. It’s common advice, and, unlike much common advice, it’s good advice 🙂

There are tons of breathing exercises to try. And I’m sure they all have their benefits. But I like to keep things simple, myself. This 4-7-8 method is one I first heard of from Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D.  He states that the technique comes from yogic masters of India.

According to Weil’s site, the uses for this technique are many:

Use it whenever anything upsetting happens – before you react. Use it whenever you are aware of internal tension. Use it to help you fall asleep. Use it to deal with food cravings. Great for mild to moderate anxiety, this exercise cannot be recommended too highly. Everyone can benefit from it.

Weil also states that the benefits come with regular practice over weeks and months, not necessarily right away. So be patient and persistent 🙂

Peace out ✌
