Love-Intelligence: Spring’s Message
One of my favorite authors, Polly Berrien Berends, uses the words Love-Intelligence for God. It’s been many years since I’ve read her books (Whole Child/Whole Parent and Coming to Life), so I can’t recall her specific explanations regarding how she came to view God that way. But as spring has sprung, I see evidence of this Love-Intelligence all around 🙂
Watching the world “awaken” each spring is a beautiful reminder of the intelligence in which we “live and move and have our being” (to paraphrase one of my favorite verses). The perennial plants that appear as if by magic, the budding of trees, the variety of insects….the list is endless if you really look.
The Love aspect is also readily apparent–and it’s largely tied in with the intelligence, in my perspective. The world provides for our needs but also nurtures our spirit with its beauty and intricacies. And when we are open to/aware of this force in our own lives, this same love-intelligence can guide us and benefit us.
This is a wonderful annual message to be gleaned from our surroundings and is most notable in spring versus other times of year. Renewal and rebirth. Spring demonstrates these things for us and we would all do well to watch and listen and apply the learning to our own personal experience 🙂
